PROGRAMS

We are involved with the following programmes and initiatives to support our work towards the targets above:

School Sport Coaching  YST - NGB’S - scUK Support 1500 additional coaching hours per SSP per year.
Create a step-change in the quantity and quality of coaching offered to young people in Barking and Dagenham
Step into Sport
YST - Sport England At least 40 young people aged 14 - 19 to be involved in a formal programme of leadership and volunteering each year.

Enables schools to grow young people as leaders and deploy them as active volunteers both within the school and community settings
Sport Unlimited
Sport England
Involve young people aged 11 - 19 who do not currently take part in school or community sport in a range of 8 week programmes with opportunities for all to continue participation
Multi Skill Clubs and Academies
YST
Development of fundamental movement and sport skills, such as agility, balance, co-ordination, catching and throwing which promote long term participation and talent development
Recruit into Coaching
YST - Sport England
4,000 new coaches across England by 2011.

Provide adults with the skills and inspiration to volunteer as a coach.

Contribute to workforce development, encourage people from deprived areas to be active and personally involved in their communities.
Young Ambassadors
YST
Involves 2 young people from Barking and Dagenham aged 14-19 each year.

The programme supports Young Ambassadors to increase participation and promote healthy active lifestyles and promote learning through the Olympic and Paralympic Values and Ideals.

Borough led

Training and a resource including DVDs and original music for schools to deliver 10 minutes of fun, physical activity a day to help schools meet the Government’s three hour target of school led PE and sport.

Helps promote  HAPPY, HEALTHY AND ACTIVE CHILDREN

Gifted and Talented Borough led
Through this programme we run a Multi Skill Academy to further develop all round skills in up to 100 talented performers from across our borough schools. Along side this, we run sport specific weekly sessions for selected pupils in netball, basketball and athletics. We curently targetting pupils in years 5 and 6. Pupils are signposted to clubs to further develop their skills.
